Carlo Ancelotti has clarified that Real Madrid and other clubs will decline the invitation to participate in the revamped Club World Cup

Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, has openly expressed his reasons for the club’s refusal to participate in FIFA’s expanded summer Club World Cup next season. Despite the controversy surrounding the revamped tournament, Real Madrid is set to decline the invitation, as stated by Ancelotti. The competition is scheduled to take place in the United States at the end of the upcoming season, with 32 teams from around the world expected to participate.

Ancelotti, who led Real Madrid to a victorious double in La Liga and the Champions League this season, has emphasized that FIFA is undervaluing the teams invited to the tournament. Real Madrid has reportedly been offered around €20 million (£17m/$22m) for their participation, a sum which Ancelotti deems inadequate. Moreover, Ancelotti has indicated that Real Madrid will not be the only club rejecting FIFA’s offer, implying that other teams share similar sentiments.

In an interview with Il Giornale, Ancelotti expressed, “FIFA forgets that players and teams will not participate in the new Club World Cup. A single match featuring Real Madrid is estimated to be worth €20 million, yet FIFA intends to offer us that amount for the entire tournament. This is unacceptable. Similar to us, other clubs will also turn down the invitation.”

Real Madrid is currently reveling in the glory of their recent Champions League triumph as they prepare for the 2024-25 season. The club has already made significant strides in strengthening their squad, including securing a high-profile deal to sign Kylian Mbappe as a free agent.
