Real Madrid and their manager Carlo Ancelotti have confirmed their involvement in the Club World Cup

Real Madrid and manager Carlo Ancelotti have clarified their stance regarding the Club World Cup. After Ancelotti’s initial comments in an interview with Italian newspaper Il Giornale suggested that the club would reject the invitation to the tournament, he later took to social media to clarify that his words were misinterpreted. The 65-year-old emphasized that he did not intend to reject the opportunity to participate in the Club World Cup and expressed his excitement about the prospect of competing for prestigious titles with Real Madrid. He added: “Nothing could be further from my interest than to reject the possibility of playing in a tournament that I consider could be a great opportunity to continue fighting for big titles with Real Madrid.”

The club itself issued a formal statement confirming their participation in the upcoming Club World Cup. Real Madrid stressed that there had never been any doubt about their involvement and expressed their pride and enthusiasm to take part in the official competition. They highlighted their commitment to inspiring fans worldwide by striving for additional accolades.

Real Madrid Club Statement: “Real Madrid C. F. communicates that at no time their participation in the new FIFA Club World Cup in 2024/2025 season been questioned. Therefore, our club will play, as planned, this official competition that we face with pride and with the utmost enthusiasm to make our millions of fans around the world dream again with a new title.”

Ancelotti’s initial statement, expressing skepticism about the tournament, raised concerns within the football community. The European Club Association (ECA) distanced itself from his remarks, emphasizing a unified front among the top European clubs in relation to the Club World Cup.

Furthermore, the planning and organization of the tournament have been the subject of discussions and disputes involving various stakeholders. Debates have emerged regarding the scheduling and consultation processes, with organizations such as Fifpro, the World Leagues Association, and the Premier League expressing their reservations and seeking adjustments to the proposed format.

Fifa’s president, Gianni Infantino, defended the tournament and its significance within the broader football landscape. He emphasized the role of such events in financing football globally and urged for an end to what he deemed a “futile debate” surrounding the Club World Cup. These discussions reflect the ongoing dialogue and negotiation between governing bodies, clubs, and players as football continues to evolve on a global scale.
