Tottenham has terminated the contract of midfielder Ndombele

French midfielder Tanguy Ndombele will leave Tottenham after the mutual termination of his contract, say the Premier League club.

Ndombele joined Spurs on a six-year deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon for a then-club record 60m euros (£53.8m) in July 2019. His arrival was met with high expectations due to his exceptional performances in Ligue 1 and his potential to add creativity and dynamism to Tottenham’s midfield.

He scored the first of his 10 goals in 91 appearances for the club on debut against Aston Villa, showcasing his ability to make an immediate impact. However, struggles with form and fitness dimmed his time at Spurs, making it a challenging period for both the player and the club.

These challenges led to Ndombele re-joining Lyon on loan in 2022. Despite the difficulties faced at Tottenham, Ndombele’s talent and potential were evident, which led to successful loan spells in Italy and Turkey. He contributed significantly to Napoli’s campaign, helping them secure the league title, and continued his success at Galatasaray after moving there in the following season.

Despite having a year left on his deal with Spurs, both parties made the decision to end their partnership from 30 June. This mutually agreed termination marks the end of Ndombele’s chapter at Tottenham Hotspur, closing a period of highs and lows for the talented midfielder.

His final appearance for Tottenham in an FA Cup third-round tie with Morecambe on 9 January 2022 showcased his commitment to the club until the very end. In a statement, the north London side expressed their gratitude to Ndombele for his dedication and service, and extended their best wishes for his future endeavors, acknowledging his contributions and the challenges he faced during his time with the club.
