The PGA Tour Board has established a “lifetime achievement exemption category” for golf legend Tiger Woods

The PGA Policy Board has recently recognized Tiger Woods’ exceptional lifetime achievement in the world of golf. With an impressive record of 15 majors and 82 total wins on the PGA Tour, Woods’ last major win at the Masters in 2019 solidified his place in golf history. As a testament to his remarkable career, it has been announced that Tiger Woods will be granted a lifetime exemption into PGA Tour Signature Events beginning next year.

In a further show of recognition for Woods’ outstanding contributions to the sport, an additional Signature Events sponsor exemption category will be created specifically to honor Woods for surpassing the exceptional lifetime achievement threshold of more than 80 career wins. This exemption, which received unanimous approval from the PGA Tour policy board, paves the way for Woods to participate in all eight signature tournaments of the tour for the remainder of his career. These tournaments are known for their substantial prize money and limited fields, bringing together the top players in the golfing world.

Despite several injuries leading him to play a limited schedule in recent years, the 48-year-old golf icon’s legacy continues to shine brightly. Having competed in only nine official PGA Tour events in the past three seasons, since his return to action at the 2022 Masters, Woods has demonstrated his enduring impact on the sport. Notably, the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club outside Los Angeles stands as the only non-major event where he has competed, an event that he also hosts.

In the 2024 season, three of the eight Signature events featured a 36-hole cut, while the remaining five did not have a cut. Eligibility for these prestigious events in 2024 was extended to the top 50 players from the previous season’s FedExCup points list through the Tour Championship, underscoring the exceptional level of competition that characterizes Signature Events.

Tiger Woods’ indelible mark on the world of golf is undeniable, and these developments solidify his ongoing influence and significance in the sport, ensuring that his legacy will continue to be celebrated for years to come.
