British GP Qualifying: George Russell secured pole position outperforming both Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is poised to be a historic and thrilling race, as George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris secure the top three positions on the grid, marking the first time ever at Silverstone and the first time anywhere in Formula 1 since 1968 that the front three positions are occupied by British drivers.

George Russell’s impressive performance saw him clinch pole position by edging out his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren’s Lando Norris. The intense battle between the three home drivers amidst on-off rain at Silverstone created an electrifying qualifying session.

This pole position marks Russell’s second in four races, and he achieved this by a narrow 0.171s margin from Hamilton, with a stellar final lap time of 1:25.819. Mercedes’ front-row lockout in Formula 1 since November 2022 signifies their return to front-running contention in the sport after a prolonged period in Red Bull’s shadow.

On the other hand, it was a difficult and disappointing day for Red Bull, as championship leader Max Verstappen qualified only fourth due to floor damage sustained during the rain-hit Q1 session. His team-mate, Sergio Perez, also faced challenges, as a mistake led to him spinning out and qualifying 19th on the 20-car grid.

The exciting qualifying session also saw McLaren’s Lando Norris and Haas’s Oscar Piastri delivering impressive performances, while Red Bull’s struggles allowed Mercedes to dominate the front-row lockout for the upcoming race.

As the anticipation for the British Grand Prix intensifies, all eyes will be on the trio of British drivers leading the grid, with Verstappen closely behind, promising a captivating race day at Silverstone.
