Stuttgart forward Serhou Guirassy’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund marks a significant milestone in the football landscape. As a Guinea international, with an impressive track record of 28 goals in the Bundesliga last season, his €17.5million release clause was an enticing prospect for Dortmund, who have secured his services until June 2028.
The transfer was not without uncertainty, as initial medical examinations in July raised concerns about a knee injury sustained during international duty in June. However, further evaluation has provided reassurance, with Dortmund confident that the 28-year-old will not require surgery and will only need a few weeks’ recovery. The club anticipates his fitness for participation in the pre-season.
Upon the completion of the deal, Guirassy expressed his excitement, emphasizing the special nature of Borussia Dortmund. He articulated his ambition to win titles, highlighting the club’s potential demonstrated by their journey to the Champions League final last year.
“When Borussia Dortmund asks, it’s something special,” Guirassy said upon the deal’s completion.
“Every child in the world who is interested in football knows this club, knows the black and yellow shirt, knows the Yellow Wall. I’m very excited about all of this, about my new team-mates. And it’s important for me to say: I came here to win titles. That’s my goal, that’s what drives me. The club showed what’s possible at BVB last year by reaching the Champions League final.”
Notably, Guirassy’s impressive goal-scoring prowess placed him as the second-highest scorer in the Bundesliga last season. His addition to Dortmund follows the transfer of Stuttgart defender Waldemar Anton, solidifying Dortmund’s squad for the upcoming season.
With the Bundesliga campaign set to commence on August 24 against Eintracht Frankfurt, Guirassy’s arrival has undoubtedly bolstered Dortmund’s prospects, adding depth and firepower to their lineup.
