Kevin Magnussen and Haas are set to part ways after the conclusion of the 2024 Formula 1 season. The departure will mark the end of a seven-year association that Magnussen has had with Haas, having first joined the team in 2017 before making a return in 2022. During this period, he has been a key figure in the team, contributing to their achievements and development.
Following Magnussen’s departure, Esteban Ocon is anticipated to take over his place at Haas. This move is part of a larger restructuring for the team, as Nico Hulkenberg, Magnussen’s current teammate, is leaving to join Sauber.
Magnussen said: “I’d like to extend my thanks to everyone at MoneyGram Haas F1 Team – I’m proud to have raced for such a great team of people these last few years.
“In particular I’d like to thank Gene Haas for his commitment to me, notably in bringing me back once again in 2022 when I thought, at that time at least, my time in Formula 1 had ended. I’ve enjoyed some great moments with this team – memories I’ll never forget.
“While I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my racing career, I remain fully focused on giving everything I’ve got for the rest of 2024 with MoneyGram Haas F1 Team.”
Magnussen, a seasoned driver with a career spanning over 175 races, contributed significantly to Haas’ performance, particularly during the 2018 season when he secured a ninth-place finish in the drivers’ standings, aiding Haas to achieve their best team finish of fifth in the Constructors’ Championship that year.
As the 2024 season progresses, Magnussen, currently sitting in 16th place in the Drivers’ Championship with five points, will look to further contribute to Haas’ standings in the Constructors’ Championship. With promising performances in Australia and Austria, he remains a strong competitive force on the track. Meanwhile, his teammate Nico Hulkenberg has been demonstrating consistent results, coming sixth in the last two races and close to entering the top 10.
The imminent changes in the driver lineup and the team’s standings signal an exciting transition for Haas as they prepare for the 2025 season.
