Barcelona are prepared to pursue RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo despite rumors of Nico Williams’ transfer interest

Barcelona’s interest in Dani Olmo and Nico Williams demonstrates the club’s commitment to strengthening its squad. With Olmo’s release clause set to be activated, the potential addition of Nico Williams could further bolster Barcelona’s attacking options. The club’s pursuit of these talented Spanish players suggests an ambitious recruitment strategy as they look to build a competitive team for the upcoming season.

Olmo’s value soared after his outstanding performance in Euro 2024, where his three goals were pivotal in Spain reclaiming the title, last won in 2012. Despite interest from other top clubs such as Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Liverpool, reports from Mundo Deportivo suggest that Barcelona may secure Olmo before the others. The Catalan club has apparently negotiated an extension of Olmo’s £50.5m ($66m/€60m) release clause, which was set to expire on July 20, giving them a few more weeks to make a move. Despite their financial challenges, Barcelona is reportedly willing to offer the attacking midfielder a six-year contract with a salary that increases after the first two seasons. Additionally, they have expressed a strong interest in signing Athletic Club and Spain winger Nico Williams, making him a top priority for the Blaugrana.

Notably, Olmo previously spent nearly seven years in Barcelona’s academy before joining Dinamo Zagreb in 2014. His public statements in early 2023 indicated a desire to return to the club, and recent comments have hinted at a potential departure from Germany.

As of now, Olmo is enjoying his vacation following Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, and he is under contract with RB Leipzig until 2027. Whether Barcelona will proceed to activate the release clause and pursue him remains uncertain, particularly given their financial constraints.
