Unai Emery has continued to bolster his squad in preparation for Aston Villa’s upcoming Champions League campaign. The latest addition to the team is midfielder Amadou Onana, who has joined Villa in a Ā£50m deal from Everton. Onana brings with him a wealth of experience, having made 72 appearances for Everton, including 37 matches last season across various competitions. The midfielder originally joined Everton from Lille for a fee of Ā£30m back in 2022.
Notably, Onana also represented Belgium in the Euro 2024 tournament this summer, showcasing his talent on the international stage. Despite a valiant effort, his national team was eliminated by France in the last 16 of the competition.
This signing adds to Villa’s ambitious recruitment efforts during the summer transfer window, with Onana becoming the eighth new addition to the squad. Prior to his arrival, Villa had already secured talented players such as Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus, Ross Barkley from Luton Town, Ian Maatsen, Samuel Iling-Junior, Lewis Dobbin, Cameron Archer, and Jaden Philogene. With such an array of new talents, Villa looks set to make a strong statement in the upcoming season, particularly as they embark on their Champions League journey. Unai Emery’s strategic approach to strengthening the squad reflects the club’s determination to compete at the highest level of European football.
