Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has reportedly agreed to a lucrative four-year contract extension worth $220 million, according to a source familiar with the deal. This extension includes a staggering $75 million signing bonus and $155 million in new guarantees.

The decision to extend Love’s contract comes after his commendable performance in his first year as a starter, leading the NFL’s youngest team to a 10-9 record and a playoff berth. This remarkable achievement was particularly significant as he had to step up to the challenge of filling the shoes of the four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, who was traded to the New York Jets in April 2023.

News of Love’s extension was first reported by NFL Network, while ESPN provided details regarding the amount of the signing bonus and guaranteed money.

Furthermore, Love’s extension comes in the wake of other significant contract agreements in the NFL. Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa secured a four-year extension worth $212.4 million, Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions signed a four-year, $212 million extension with $170 million guaranteed, and Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to a five-year, $275 million extension with $142 million guaranteed earlier in the offseason.

Notably, Love’s extension places him in the company of Lawrence and Joe Burrow in terms of the highest average paid salary ($55 million) in NFL history. It is worth mentioning that despite this, Love’s contract represents a smaller percentage of the NFL’s salary cap (21.5%) compared to Burrow’s extension with the Bengals, which accounted for 25% of the cap under the terms of the old cap in 2023, as reported by Spotrac.

Throughout the negotiations of this lucrative extension, the 25-year-old Love had not been practicing with the Packers in training camp, although he had been attending workouts and participating in all other team activities.
