Chelsea Football Club has successfully finalized the acquisition of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal. The Athletic had previously disclosed that both clubs had reached an agreement on a β¬24.5 million (Β£20.7m, $26.6m) transfer fee for the 22-year-old. Jorgensen has committed to a lengthy seven-year contract, binding him with Chelsea until 2031.

Born in Sweden, Jorgensen commenced his football journey at 15 by joining Villarreal after stints in the academies of Swedish clubs GIF Nike and Malmo, as well as Spanish sides Santa Catalina, Penya Arrabal, and Mallorca. Following three years within Villarreal’s youth setup, Jorgensen earned promotion to Villarreal B and achieved his senior debut against SCR PeΓ±a Deportiva in October 2020.
His skills did not go unnoticed as he soon began training regularly with the first-team squad and cemented his place in the Villarreal B side. In December 2021, Jorgensen was granted his debut in a resounding 7β1 victory over Atletico Sanluqueno in the Copa del Rey. Subsequently, he made his La Liga debut in January 2023 and, ahead of the 2023/24 season, solidified his position as Villarrealβs first-choice goalkeeper.
During the last season, Jorgensen made 37 appearances across all competitions, contributing to Villarreal’s eighth-place finish in the Spanish top flight. His arrival is eagerly anticipated as he joins Chelsea on their pre-season tour of the United States, bringing his promising talent to the renowned football club.
