Christian Horner Confirms Sergio Perez Will Stay at Red Bull

Following intense discussions on Monday, Christian Horner has announced that Sergio Perez will maintain his position at Red Bull for the remainder of the season. It was a pivotal moment for Perez, who faced scrutiny after a challenging run at the Belgian Grand Prix. Despite the pressure, Horner has assured the team that Perez will retain his role as the teammate of Max Verstappen.

The discussions on Monday centered on Perez’s future with the team, particularly in light of remarks made by the team’s motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, who commented on Perez’s performance at the Belgian Grand Prix. Evidently, Perez’s struggles in recent races had put him under significant pressure to deliver a strong performance.

Although Perez displayed improved qualifying results, securing the second position on the grid, he faced difficulties during the race and ultimately finished in eighth place (later elevated to seventh post George Russell’s disqualification), trailing behind Verstappen, who made a remarkable recovery from an 11th place start due to a grid penalty.

There had been speculation surrounding potential replacements for Perez, including Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson, as well as drivers from their junior squad RB such as Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda. However, in the wake of the discussions, Horner has unequivocally confirmed that there will be no change in the driver lineup.

Addressing the Red Bull team, Horner stated, “Checo remains a Red Bull Racing driver despite recent speculation, and we look forward to seeing him perform at tracks where he has previously excelled after the summer break.”

This decision affirms Red Bull’s commitment to Perez, providing him with the opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities at upcoming circuits where he has historically performed well.
