Pep Guardiola provided an update on the transfer speculations surrounding Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Julian Alvarez. Guardiola dismissed rumors of De Bruyne leaving the club, stating that no offers have been received and expressing his desire for the Belgian playmaker to stay. He highlighted De Bruyne’s influential role at the club and emphasized that the decision ultimately rests with the player.
“He was here before I arrived. He is the eldest (longest-serving) player here. It happened with David (Silva) for example and other players, he has the credit to decide his future himself. What he has done for us is massive so he can decide. The information I have now is he will stay.”
Regarding Julian Alvarez, Guardiola acknowledged the player’s concern about his playing time in important matches and confirmed that discussions about his future will take place after his participation in the Olympics with Argentina. The Manchester City boss indicated that Alvarez’s agent will communicate with the club’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, to explore potential options.
Speaking ahead of Man City’s friendly against Barcelona in Orlando, Guardiola said of Alvarez: “I don’t think about replacing. I knew he said he will think about it. “Once he has finished thinking, his agent will call Txiki [Begiristain] and we will see what happens.
“I know he wants to play in important moments, but the other players [want that] too. We have 18 or 19 players who want to play in the important games. I read he has to think about it, so okay think about it and after that he will inform us what he wants to do.”
Guardiola’s comments shed light on the ongoing developments within the Manchester City squad and the club’s approach to addressing the players’ concerns. As the transfer window progresses, these insights into the managerial perspective provide valuable context for fans and observers of the football world.
