Fulham has made a £20m bid for Manchester United’s McTominay

Manchester United have found themselves in an interesting position with the recent second bid from Fulham for midfielder Scott McTominay. The £20m offer has created a buzz around McTominay’s future, especially considering the attempts from West Ham to sign him last summer, adding to the uncertainty.

During the club’s pre-season tour in the United States, United manager Erik ten Hag expressed his satisfaction with having McTominay in his squad, stopping short of confirming the 27-year-old’s definitive stay at the club. With United aiming to raise funds for new player acquisitions and the setbacks of defender Leny Yoro’s three-month absence and striker Rasmus Hojlund’s injury, the situation has intensified.

“I am so pleased with the performance of Scott and so pleased to have him in my squad,” said the Dutchman.

“Scott has huge impact on team performances with his spirit and playing in the advanced position he is so important.”

McTominay, who is entering the prime of his career, desires regular first-team action. Last season, he featured in 32 Premier League matches for United, with 14 appearances from the bench, including a start in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City at Wembley. His recent role playing as a number 10 in the pre-season win over Real Betis has added to the discussions.

The absence of Bruno Fernandes from the main group due to his Euro 2024 exertions, coupled with the need to keep Mason Mount fit and Casemiro’s unexpected retention at the club despite speculation of a summer move to the Saudi Pro-League, has raised the possibility of a potential deal involving McTominay.

When questioned about the player’s future, Ten Hag emphasized his appreciation for the former United academy player, highlighting McTominay’s positive impact on team performances and his significance in an advanced position. The discussions surrounding McTominay’s future at Manchester United continue to captivate football enthusiasts as the transfer saga unfolds.
