Manchester United’s Transfer Talks
It has been an eventful transfer window for Manchester United as talks continue with Bayern Munich regarding defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. The club’s joint bid for the pair was unexpectedly rejected by the German giants, leading to ongoing negotiations.
Both De Ligt and Mazraoui have already agreed to personal terms, each being offered five-year contracts with the possibility of an additional 12 months at Old Trafford. Represented by the same agent, Rafaela Pimenta, the players and their representatives have expressed surprise at Bayern’s rejection, believing that United’s offer aligned with the Bundesliga club’s expectations for the out-of-favour duo.
At the conclusion of the previous season, Bayern communicated to De Ligt and Mazraoui that they were surplus to requirements and would assist in facilitating moves if credible deals were presented. Despite this, United’s pursuit of the pair was seen as an important market opportunity, with the deal’s cost being particularly appealing.
Although United is keen to secure a deal with Bayern, they are unlikely to significantly increase their offer, given the clear indication that the two players are no longer part of Bayern’s plans and have been made available for transfer.
The potential transfer of Mazraoui hinges on United’s ability to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is engaged in discussions with West Ham regarding a move to the London Stadium.
Moreover, the club’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements has intensified following the news that £59 million signing Leny Yoro will be sidelined for three months due to a broken metatarsal, reinforcing the club’s need to bolster the central defensive position.
