Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has recently completed the signing of Willian Pacho, a promising 22-year-old defender from Frankfurt. The transfer involved a fee of β¬40 million plus β¬5 million in add-ons, according to the well-known sports journalist Fabrizio Romano. This significant move marks the introduction of the first Ecuadorian player in the club’s history and represents a notable milestone for both Pacho and the team.
Willian Pacho, who hails from QuinindΓ©, Ecuador, was born on 16th October 2001. His football journey began at the age of 16 when he joined Independiente del Valle in 2017. Demonstrating his potential, he progressed through the various youth categories, including the U20s and the reserve team (Independiente del Valle B), before making his debut in the Primera CategorΓa Serie A (Ecuadorian league) in November 2019 against Delfin. Notably, during his tenure at the club, he achieved success by winning the Copa Sudamericana and the Copa Libertadores U20 in 2019, as well as the Ecuadorian league in 2021.
The young and talented center-back embraced a new chapter in his career when he embarked on a journey to Belgium in January 2022. Joining Royal Antwerp FC, Pacho made an impactful debut for his new club on 24th April 2022 against Club Brugge KV. Standing at an impressive height of 1.88 meters, he swiftly established himself as a key player, amassing 53 appearances across all competitions and contributing to the team’s historic league and cup double at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.
Subsequently, Willian Pacho transitioned to Germany, where he signed with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023. In the Bundesliga and UEFA Conference League, he swiftly solidified his position as an integral player within the team, making significant contributions to his club’s success. With a total of 44 appearances in all competitions, he emerged as one of the standout revelations in the German top flight, playing a pivotal role in his club’s commendable defensive performances.
The young Ecuadorian’s exceptional displays on the field also earned him a call-up to the Ecuador national team in 2022. Making his first official appearance in a friendly against Australia on 28th March 2023, Pacho not only showcased his defensive prowess but also netted his first international goal, aiding his side to a 2-1 victory. At just 22 years of age, the central defender has already earned 16 caps and scored 2 goals for his country, solidifying his status as a key member of Ecuador’s national team, a role further emphasized by his recent inclusion in the squad for the Copa AmΓ©rica.
