West Ham United have recently finalized a significant acquisition in the form of Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo. The deal, comprising of an initial loan with a tantalizing option to buy for £35m, marks a notable development for the Hammers. This agreement comes after an earlier attempt to secure Todibo’s services for €32m [£27m], a move that was initially delayed due to the player’s expressed interest in joining Juventus. However, with Juventus failing to reach an agreement with Nice, West Ham swiftly capitalized on the opportunity.
The proactive approach by West Ham’s technical director, Tim Steidten, played a pivotal role in sealing the deal. Steidten’s prompt visit to Nice upon hearing of the potential transfer, followed by the swift finalization of the loan with an option deal, underscores the club’s determination to strengthen its squad. Notably, the medical examination of Todibo was completed promptly upon his return with Steidten, highlighting the efficiency of the process.
Todibo’s arrival at West Ham marks the club’s seventh signing of the summer, a clear indicator of their ambition under the stewardship of new manager Julen Lopetegui.
