Fulham have completed the signing of centre-back Joachim Andersen from Crystal Palace for a reported £30m, after pursuing the 28-year-old throughout the summer transfer window. The initial bid from the Cottagers was rejected as Palace sought a higher fee closer to £40m. The Denmark international, who previously played for Fulham on loan during the 2020-21 season, has now joined the club on a five-year deal, with an option to extend for a further year.
Expressing his delight at the move, Andersen said, “It’s really nice to be here. Feels a little bit like coming home, so it’s a good feeling. Of course, I know the club, I know how Fulham are playing, I know many players, I know some staff, so I didn’t need anyone to convince me because I knew a lot of things already.”
During his loan spell with the Cottagers, Andersen made 31 appearances in the Premier League, finding the net once. Prior to joining Fulham, Andersen featured 112 times for Crystal Palace after transferring from Lyon in the summer of 2021. Notably, he played every minute of Denmark’s Euro 2024 campaign, which concluded with a last-16 defeat by hosts Germany.
Meanwhile, Andersen’s former Palace centre-back partner, Marc Guehi, has attracted interest from Newcastle. However, Eagles chairman Steve Parish indicated that it was “unlikely” for both players to leave the club during this summer transfer window. Palace manager Oliver Glasner also expressed his confidence in Guehi, stating, “Marc will lead the team as captain against West Ham on Saturday. I expect everyone to be a Crystal Palace player until someone tells me different.”
