Liverpool have managed to secure a significant transfer deal with Juventus, agreeing to a £12.5m arrangement to acquire the talented Italy forward Federico Chiesa. This exciting transfer involves an initial payment of £10m, with an additional £2.5m in potential add-ons linked predominantly to his on-field performances. As part of this move, Liverpool is poised to offer Chiesa a lucrative four-year contract at Anfield, signaling a strong commitment to leveraging his abilities within their squad.
Reports from Sky Sports News earlier this week unveiled Liverpool’s keen interest in Chiesa, who has been given the green light to depart Juventus. Despite this keen interest from Liverpool, there was competition from other clubs, with Barcelona and even clubs from Saudi Arabia expressing interest in the forward. Barcelona, however, encountered challenges in creating the necessary space in their wage structure to accommodate Chiesa. Ultimately, Liverpool emerged successful in their pursuit of the player, overcoming competing interest to secure his signature.
Federico Chiesa’s journey at Juventus began with a two-year loan spell from Fiorentina, which was then followed by a permanent transfer in 2022. During his time at Juventus, he showcased his talent through 98 appearances, finding the back of the net 32 times in a total of 131 matches across various competitions. Notably, his contributions extend beyond his club performances, with a pivotal role in Italy’s triumphant Euro 2021 campaign, culminating in a memorable victory over England in the final at Wembley.
This significant acquisition of Chiesa represents a major move for Liverpool’s new head coach, Arne Slot, marking the club’s second signing this summer. Prior to this, Liverpool had finalized a deal to bring in Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for a fee of £25m, with additional add-ons amounting to £4m. An interesting facet of this transfer involves Mamardashvili continuing with Valencia until the upcoming summer, setting the stage for an impactful shift within Liverpool’s squad dynamics.
