Crystal Palace have recently finalized an agreement with Chelsea to secure the services of defender Trevoh Chalobah on a loan deal. Chalobah is expected to undergo a medical examination before officially joining the Selhurst Park club for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.
The arrangement entails a straightforward loan without any obligation to buy, although Palace has paid an undisclosed fee to secure the defenderβs temporary transfer.
At 25 years old, Chalobah becomes Palaceβs sixth summer signing, joining Ismaila Sarr, Chadi Riad, Daichi Kamada, Jemiah Umolu, and Maxence Lacroix, the latter of whom joined from Wolfsburg earlier on deadline day. His addition will provide valuable cover at centre-back, particularly following Joachim Andersenβs departure to Fulham earlier in the transfer window.
Meanwhile, Marc Guehi is set to continue his tenure at Palace after Newcastle United had four offers rebuffed for the England international.
Chalobah, who signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge in November 2022, departs Chelsea on a temporary basis after being informed that he was not in head coach Enzo Marescaβs plans for the new season. Reports from The Athletic earlier this summer indicated that the Chelsea academy graduate had been training separately from the first team.
Chalobah has encountered limited opportunities in recent seasons, with Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill established as first-choice centre-backs. Additionally, Wesley Fofana is fit and available after missing the previous term due to injury, and Tosin Adarabioyo joined the club from Fulham earlier this summer.
Having joined Chelsea at nine years old, Chalobah progressed through the clubβs academy and made his first-team debut under former manager Thomas Tuchel, amassing 17 appearances and scoring three goals during a standout 2021-22 season. He has since made 80 appearances for the club, registering five goals in various competitions.
On the international stage, Chalobah has represented England at every age group from under-16 to under-21 but is yet to earn a senior team cap.
