Oliver Bearman to Replace Kevin Magnussen at Haas for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Young British driver Oliver Bearman is set to step in for the suspended Kevin Magnussen at the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Magnussen, who has been handed a race ban due to exceeding the penalty-point limit in Formula 1, will yield his seat to the 19-year-old talent.

Bearman, already signed as a Haas driver for the 2025 season, will be participating in his second grand prix, following a notable debut earlier this year when he substituted for Carlos Sainz at Ferrari in Saudi Arabia. Despite limited preparation time, Bearman showcased his potential by finishing seventh, impressing the racing world.

His familiarity with the Haas car from free practice outings earlier in the season, alongside his previous experience with Ferrari, has undoubtedly contributed to securing this opportunity. Expressing his readiness for the challenge, Bearman reflected on his earlier substitute role with Ferrari and highlighted the value of his previous FP1 sessions with Haas.

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu hailed the chance for Bearman and the team to collaborate through an entire race weekend, emphasizing the positive prospects of this arrangement.

At the same time, the current developments have raised questions about Magnussen’s future in F1, as he is likely to lose his place at the end of the season. The only potential seat available to him is the second one at Sauber, although Red Bull’s decision on the second seat at their RB team could lead to further changes in the driver lineup. Nonetheless, as it stands, Magnussen is not in contention for the Red Bull seat.
