Dak Prescott Agrees $240M Contract Extension with The Dallas Cowboys and set to be NFL’s highest-paid player

The Dallas Cowboys have made a historic move by agreeing to a lucrative contract extension with quarterback Dak Prescott, setting him up to become the highest-paid player in NFL history. The 31-year-old athlete has inked a four-year contract extension reported to be worth a staggering $240 million (£183 million), with an astonishing $231 million (£176 million) of that amount guaranteed. Additionally, Prescott will receive a signing bonus of $80 million (£61 million).

At an average of $60 million (£46 million) per season, this landmark deal will catapult Prescott to the top of the list as the highest-paid player in NFL history, surpassing the previous $55 million (£42 million) average annual salary earned by players such as Joe Burrow, Jordan Love, and Trevor Lawrence. Furthermore, the guaranteed sum of $231 million breaks records, edging slightly above the $230 million the Cleveland Browns notably allocated to Deshaun Watson in 2022.

This exciting news has surfaced just hours before the commencement of the 2024 season for the Dallas Cowboys, who are scheduled to kick off their season with a game in Cleveland against Watson’s Browns. The timing of this announcement adds an extra layer of anticipation and excitement to the upcoming games.

Having earned three Pro Bowl selections, Prescott is coming off a highly successful career year, leading the league with 36 touchdown passes and 410 completions. He also secured second place in the league’s Most Valuable Player voting, solidifying his position as a standout performer. The signing of this contract extension grants much-needed stability to the team, following prolonged speculation surrounding the future of both Prescott and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Speaking of Lamb, the talented wide receiver has also secured his future with the Cowboys by agreeing to a four-year, $136 million(£104 million) contract. This development marks the successful resolution of a protracted stand-off, further strengthening the team’s roster and prospects for the seasons ahead.

Prescott’s impact as a prolific passer for the Cowboys has been undeniable, leading the team to the playoffs in three successive years, each featuring an impressive 12-win regular season. However, the team’s postseason success has fallen short of expectations, with Prescott securing victories in just two out of seven post-season games and failing to progress beyond the divisional round.

As the Dallas Cowboys approach nearly three decades without a Super Bowl victory, the pressure is mounting for the team to achieve success once again. With Prescott’s contract extension now secured, the team is placing its faith in his ability to lead them to glory and bring an end to their Super Bowl drought.
