CONFIRMED: Adrian Newey Joins Aston Martin as Managing Technical Partner in 2025 after Red Bull exit

Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull as the chief technical officer has been confirmed, with his move to Aston Martin set for the first quarter of 2025. The 65-year-old renowned F1 designer will take on the role of Managing Technical Partner at Aston Martin, also becoming a shareholder of the team.

This high-profile move comes after reported issues in Newey’s relationship with Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner, leading to his decision to leave. Newey is committed to finishing his work on Red Bull’s first hypercar, the RB17, before transitioning to his new role at Aston Martin on March 1, 2025.

According to reports from Sky Sports News, Newey’s compensation at Aston Martin will include a basic salary of £20m, which can rise to £30m with bonuses, emphasizing the significance of his appointment to the team.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 Team,” said Newey.

“I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence [Stroll] brings to everything he is involved with. Lawrence is determined to create a world-beating team.

“He is the only majority team owner who is actively engaged in the sport. His commitment is demonstrated in the development of the new AMR Technology Campus and wind tunnel at Silverstone, which are not only state of the art but have a layout that creates a great environment to work in.

Aston Martin’s owner, Lawrence Stroll, has shown significant ambition for the team, demonstrated by recent appointments such as former Ferrari designer Enrico Cardile as chief technical officer and former Mercedes engine guru Andy Cowell as group chief executive.

Newey’s collaboration with two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, who will be driving for the Aston Martin team alongside Lance Stroll, highlights the calibre of talent being assembled.

Aston Martin’s aspirations for the 2026 season to establish themselves among the sport’s leading teams have been underscored by the appointment of Newey, a designer with a proven track record of creating championship-winning F1 cars.

Newey’s design expertise, spanning successful stints at Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, reinforces the anticipation surrounding his potential impact on the development of Aston Martin’s cars as the sport enters a new era with revised regulations.
