Bukayo Saka has left the England training camp to return to Arsenal for further assessment regarding the injury he sustained during the match against Greece. The young forward limped off the pitch during the second half of Thursday’s challenging defeat at Wembley Stadium and, as a result, will not participate in England’s Nations League clash against Finland scheduled for this coming Sunday.
Interim England boss Lee Carsley provided an update on Saka’s condition following the match, highlighting the importance of monitoring the player’s injury closely. Upon his return to Arsenal, Saka will undergo a thorough evaluation by the club’s medical team to determine the extent of the injury and the necessary steps for recovery. This assessment is particularly crucial as Arsenal prepares for their first Premier League game after the international break against Bournemouth on October 19.
Besides Saka’s unfortunate exit from the camp, Liverpool’s uncapped midfielder Curtis Jones has also withdrawn from the squad due to a personal commitment, adding to the challenges faced by the interim coaching staff. Meanwhile, team captain Harry Kane and midfielder Jack Grealish have resumed training on Saturday, recovering from minor injuries that kept them sidelined during the Greece match.
The 22-man squad will be flying out to Helsinki on Saturday afternoon to engage in final preparations for the upcoming match against Finland, which is set to kick off at 17:00 BST. Currently, Lee Carsley’s side sits second in League B Group 2, having amassed six points from their opening three matches. The team hopes to build on their momentum and perform strongly in their next outing, despite the absences of key players like Saka.
