Bayern are now confident to get an agreement done with Joshua Kimmich over a new contract

Transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Bayern Munich is growing more hopeful about securing a new contract with their influential midfielder, Joshua Kimmich. This development carries significant weight for Bayern, as Kimmich has been integral to the team since joining.

Kimmich’s current contract is set to expire in 2025, and negotiations have begun. Notably, Kimmich seems more open to discussions now than he was last season, suggesting a possible shift in his dedication to the club as they plan for future achievements.

Despite ongoing rumors linking Kimmich to top clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich is determined to keep Kimmich central to their future strategy. The club values his exceptional skills and leadership, which are vital for their aspirations in both domestic and European competitions.

Moreover, Kimmich has attracted Barcelona’s interest for the past two summers, with both Xavi, Barcelona’s manager, and Hansi Flick, Bayern’s former coach, expressing a desire to sign him. Despite this interest, Kimmich opted to stay with Bayern Munich, demonstrating his loyalty.

Flick has been instrumental in Kimmich’s growth during his time at Bayern, most notably by transitioning Kimmich from a midfielder to a right-back. This strategic move allowed Kimmich to exhibit his defensive abilities while also enhancing his adaptability on the field, making him valuable in various positions.

Initially, Kimmich primarily played as a midfielder, often pairing with Thiago Alcantara in a double-pivot setup. However, the switch to right-back occurred when Benjamin Pavard, the regular right-back, suffered an injury. Flick’s decision proved insightful, as it established Kimmich’s long-term role, enriching his tactical versatility and skill set.

Barcelona’s interest is particularly driven by Kimmich’s midfield prowess. However, his ability to step in as a right-back is also appealing, especially given that Jules Kounde currently lacks a seasoned backup beyond young Héctor Fort. This makes Kimmich an attractive option for Barcelona’s strategic plans.

Throughout the summer transfer window, Kimmich was frequently associated with a potential move to Barcelona, leading many to speculate that if he did not renew his contract with Bayern, he might seriously consider a transfer, influenced by Flick’s role in his career.

Recent reports, however, indicate a shift in Kimmich’s outlook. Now, the German international seems more inclined to remain with Bayern Munich instead of pursuing a transfer, marking a significant change in his potential path and reinforcing Bayern’s strategy of building around core players like Kimmich as they aim for long-term success.
