Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate will miss Sunday’s highly anticipated game against Manchester City, as he has confirmed he has suffered an injury. This development comes as a significant blow to Liverpool’s defensive plans, given the importance of the fixture against their rivals.

According to renowned journalist Dave Ockop, the French centre-back is expected to be sidelined for approximately 5 to 6 weeks. This timeline rules him out for much of December, a critical period in the Premier League when teams face a congested schedule. Liverpool, competing on multiple fronts, will have to navigate this tough stretch without one of their key defensive players. As matches come thick and fast during this time, the absence of a player of Konate’s caliber is bound to create numerous challenges for Liverpool’s defensive setup.

The injury occurred at the end of Wednesday’s Champions League home win over Real Madrid, a match in which Konate played a pivotal role. Reports indicate that he is dealing with a knee injury, which is particularly concerning for a player in such a demanding position on the pitch. Fortunately, it has been communicated that the injury is not expected to be long-term; however, an exact timeline for his recovery has yet to be established.

In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Konate expressed his frustration regarding the injury: “So frustrating to pick up this injury right at the end of a great game on Wednesday night. Now we start the recovery process but one thing I promise is I will come back and be the best I can be once again.” He also expressed gratitude for the support he receives from fans, stating, “Thank you for the amazing support at Anfield. Inshallah we will keep going and I will support the team every step of the way.”

Since replacing Jarell Quansah at half-time of the season opener against Ipswich, Konate has been a consistent presence, starting every Premier League and Champions League match. Quansah, on the other hand, has only made three appearances since then, with two of those being starts in the Carabao Cup, indicating a significant drop in playing time.

In light of Konate’s absence, fellow centre-back Joe Gomez is seen as the favorite to step into the lineup against Manchester City. Gomez has made eight appearances this season, though it is worth noting that his only two starts have also come in League Cup action. As Liverpool prepares to face a formidable opponent in City, all eyes will now be on Gomez to see how he can fill the gap left by Konate and bolster the team’s defensive efforts during this crucial stretch of the season.
