Carlos Corberan became West Brom’s manager in October 2022 and led the team to the Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-finals in the 2023/24 season, implementing effective tactics that improved player performance and morale, ultimately facing Southampton in the play-offs.
Recently, it was confirmed that Carlos Corberan has left his job at West Brom to take on the role of head coach at Valencia. The LaLiga club announced this development after meeting the release clause in Corberan’s contract with West Brom. In an official statement, Valencia declared, “Carlos Corberan becomes the new Valencia CF coach until 2027,” signaling their long-term commitment to him.
As part of the announcement, Valencia communicated with West Bromwich Albion FC regarding the execution of the exit option that had been stipulated in Corberan’s contract. His transfer to Valencia has been viewed positively by both clubs, with West Brom recognizing the achievements he brought during his time there.
In a heartfelt post shared on social media, Corberan expressed the emotional weight of his decision. He described leaving West Brom as the “hardest” choice he has ever had to make, underscoring the deep connection he formed with the club and its supporters. Corberan wrote, “I cannot begin to explain how I feel about West Bromwich Albion, its fans and everyone associated with the club.” His tenure was not just a professional undertaking; it was a journey filled with passion and dedication.
The coach went on to reflect on the intense love and support he received from the West Brom community during his more than two years at the club. “There will ALWAYS be a place in my heart for this special club and I hope one day I can return to thank you all for your incredible support,” he stated, highlighting the bonds he created and the impact of the club on his life.
Corberan, who previously managed Huddersfield and had a noteworthy stint under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds, took charge at The Hawthorns in late 2022 after the departure of Steve Bruce. His strategic acumen and ability to foster team spirit were key in transforming West Brom’s season, allowing them to compete effectively in the Championship.
Presently, the Baggies sit seventh in the league, just outside the play-off places on goal difference. Remarkably, they have only lost one of their last 14 matches, showcasing the solid foundation Corberan built. The team is gearing up for an upcoming match at Pride Park against Derby on Boxing Day, where they will seek to continue their strong form.
In the interim, Chris Brunt, Damia Abella, and Boaz Myhill have stepped in to oversee first-team duties at West Brom until further notice, ensuring continuity as the club transitions to its next coaching phase.
