Chelsea Transfer Latest: Guehi and Chalobah Eyed as Potential Center-Backs

Chelsea Football Club is actively pursuing a new centre-back to strengthen their defensive lineup following the unfortunate news regarding Wesley Fofana. The club’s manager, Enzo Maresca, has confirmed that Fofana could potentially miss the remainder of the season due to a serious hamstring injury, which has sent the team into a search for suitable replacements.

One of the most prominent targets on Chelsea’s radar is Marc Guehi, who currently plays for Crystal Palace and has also made a name for himself with the England national team. Guehi’s journey in football began at Chelsea’s Cobham academy, where he honed his skills and developed into a promising player. In the summer of 2021, he made the move to Palace for a reported fee of £18 million, and his performances since then have only solidified his reputation.

In the last transfer window, Newcastle United attempted to secure Guehi’s signature, making multiple offers to Crystal Palace. However, those discussions did not lead to an agreement on a fee, allowing Guehi to continue his development at Selhurst Park, where he currently has 18 months left on his contract. Chelsea is now considering making an offer to bring him back into the fold, recognizing his familiarity with the club’s systems and his potential to contribute immediately.

Additionally, Chelsea is weighing another option to navigate their defensive woes—recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace. Chalobah, who had previously been a part of Chelsea’s squad, has shown promise and could serve as a valuable asset in light of Fofana’s injury. The club’s decision-making process in the upcoming transfer window will likely be influenced by these developments, as they aim to bolster their squad and maintain competitiveness in the league.
