Erling Haaland has officially signed a remarkable new nine-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester City, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2034. This significant extension is seen as one of the longest commitments in modern football history and signifies a strong message about the ambitions of both the player and the club.
Haaland, at just 24 years old, has made a monumental impact since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in June 2022. In a short span of time, he has registered an impressive 111 goals in 126 games, showcasing his incredible scoring prowess and skill as a forward. The new deal comes as an uplift on his previous contract, which was believed to be around £400,000 per week, solidifying his status as the club’s highest earner.
Importantly, the latest contract does not include any release clauses, which signifies Manchester City’s intent to retain their star player without the potential for a mid-contract exit. This move comes in the wake of speculation regarding Haaland’s future, especially with rumored interest from top clubs like Real Madrid, further highlighting the significance of his renewed commitment to City.
In the context of Manchester City’s current season, the team is undergoing a rebuild, with plans to strengthen their squad. The club is reportedly close to finalizing deals for defenders Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens and Vitor Reis from Palmeiras, as well as having an agreement in place for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush. These transactions indicate a proactive approach as the club aims to enhance their performance in the Premier League, where they currently sit in sixth place.
Reflecting on his new contract, Haaland expressed his enthusiasm: “I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club. Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters, and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.”
He continued to extend his gratitude towards the coaching staff and his teammates, stating, “I also want to thank Pep [Guardiola], his coaching staff, my team-mates, and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be and now I am City no matter what.”
Haaland closed his remarks with determination: “I want to keep developing, keep working to get better, and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.” This commitment not only cements his place in the hearts of Manchester City supporters but also reinforces the forward’s ambition to pursue greatness alongside the club in the coming years.
