Breaking: Antony is set to join Real Betis on loan from Man United

Manchester United winger Antony is poised to leave the club and join Real Betis on loan for the remainder of the season, as confirmed by renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The news comes as no surprise, given Antony’s struggles to find consistent form since his arrival at Manchester United.

Antony, who was brought to Old Trafford for a staggering £86 million from Ajax in the summer of 2022, has yet to justify his price tag. The Brazilian forward was initially seen as a marquee signing by manager Erik ten Hag, and he made a promising start by scoring 12 goals, including three in his first three Premier League games. However, since April 2023, Antony’s contributions to the team have significantly waned, as he has managed to net just one goal in the top flight.

Under Erik ten Hag, Antony has seen his playing time diminish, leading to the speculation surrounding his future at the club. Furthermore, his prospects appeared even bleaker with the arrival of Ruben Amorim, who has not featured Antony prominently in his plans at Manchester United. This season, the winger has yet to start a Premier League match.

In recent weeks, it was reported that Real Betis was close to finalizing an agreement with Manchester United regarding Antony’s loan transfer. Manuel Pellegrini, the manager of Betis, is said to be an admirer of the 24-year-old forward and believes that a switch to Estadio Benito Villamarín could revitalize Antony’s career, allowing him to regain his confidence and form.

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that all the necessary arrangements for Antony’s move to Betis are in order. He stated on social media platform X, “Antony to Real Betis, here we go! Verbal agreement in place between all parties with Man United too.” Romano elaborated that the documents are currently being checked, and soon it will be time for travel and medical tests.

Importantly, the loan deal will not include a buy clause, meaning Antony will return to Manchester United once the loan period concludes in June. This situation presents a crucial opportunity for Antony to impress at Real Betis, as a successful stint in Spain could attract interest from other clubs during the upcoming summer transfer window. The Red Devils will be watching closely, hopeful that Antony can rediscover his best form and make a strong case for his future at Old Trafford.
