Liverpool will face a challenging period as they will be without key players Diogo Jota and Joe Gomez for several weeks. Coach Arne Slot recently provided updates on their injuries, shedding light on the severity of the situation.
Jota’s absence was felt during the Reds’ impressive 2-0 victory over Brentford on Saturday. He sustained an injury after the draw against Nottingham Forest, which has now led to his exclusion from recent match squads. This injury has raised concerns among the coaching staff and fans alike, particularly given Jota’s crucial contributions to the team’s offensive lineup.
On the other hand, Joe Gomez has been unable to participate in any matches since the end of the last calendar year due to a hamstring issue. This prolonged absence has made it difficult for Slot to establish a solid defensive setup, particularly in crucial fixtures.
During the press conference, Slot emphasized that while Jota has “overloaded a certain muscle” during his recent substitute appearance, he remains optimistic about the Portuguese forward’s return. He indicated that Jota might be back in action slightly sooner than Gomez, although he was careful to communicate that neither player would be sidelined for an extended period, such as months.
“Maybe Jota will be back a bit earlier than Joe. Both of them are expected to be back with us in weeks rather than months,” Slot stated. He also acknowledged the challenges associated with the rehabilitation process, highlighting that the final stages of rehab can often prove unpredictable. The coach mentioned, “It’s clear that we are expecting them to be back with us in the upcoming weeks. It is always difficult to say exactly how long it is. Both of them are not going to be out for months, that’s for sure, as long as the rehab goes as planned.”
The upcoming schedule presents additional challenges for Slot’s side, with a prestigious Champions League clash against Lille looming on Tuesday, followed by a crucial Premier League matchup against Ipswich. The absence of Jota and Gomez may test the depth and resilience of the squad, pushing other players to step up and fill the void left by the injured duo as Liverpool seeks to maintain their competitive edge in both domestic and European competitions.
