Tottenham in Talks with AC Milan over Fikayo Tomori Transfer

Radu Dragusin has joined the ranks of Tottenham Hotspur’s injured defenders, further straining the team’s defensive resources as they gear up for an important match against Brentford. With the transfer window closing soon, Spurs are keenly looking for defensive reinforcements, and talks to bring Fikayo Tomori, a former Chelsea player currently with AC Milan, are reportedly advancing quickly.

The interest in Tomori underscores Tottenham’s determination to address their defensive weaknesses. Even though negotiations are underway, insiders have shared with Sky Sports News that the England international has not yet committed to the move, adding an element of uncertainty as Spurs race against time to finalize the deal before the fast-approaching Monday 11 pm deadline.

In terms of injury updates, Tottenham’s head coach, Ange Postecoglou, revealed on Friday that Cristian Romero, another key defender, is still several weeks away from returning to the pitch. This comes on the heels of Dragusin’s injury, which occurred during the Europa League home victory against Elfsborg, further depleting the team’s defensive lineup and raising concerns about their depth.

Throughout this season, Postecoglou has faced significant challenges as ongoing injuries have severely impacted the team’s defensive effectiveness. In a media briefing ahead of the pivotal clash against Brentford, which will be shown live on Sky Sports, the manager expressed his concerns, stating, “Still not sure, we’ll let it settle down and get more information over the weekend. He’s [Dragusin] obviously not available for this weekend.”

In brighter news, the Tottenham manager mentioned that Djed Spence is expected to be available for the upcoming game, and Sergio Reguilon is also likely to be fit, providing a glimmer of hope amid the injury crisis. However, Postecoglou’s expectations of recovery seem to be constantly overshadowed by setbacks, as he poignantly noted, “Every time I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel it turns out to be an oncoming train.”

Giving further insight into player fitness, Postecoglou elaborated on the condition of others within the squad, indicating that “They’re all around 10 days’ time, Vic [Guglielmo Vicario], [Brennan] Johnson, Destiny [Udogie], Wilson [Odobert], Timo [Werner]. [Cristian] Romero is a tricky one.” These injury issues highlight the pressing need for reinforcements to fortify the defense, particularly as they prepare for back-to-back fixtures in a tightly packed schedule.

The coach lamented, “There’s still work to do, but all those guys, apart from Dom [Solanke], [who’s] a week behind, are all slated for the next week to 10 days.” Unfortunately, Romero’s situation remains uncertain: “He’s just a slow healer, looking at a week-to-week basis. He’s been out a while; it’s just taking time.”

As Tottenham navigates this challenging landscape marked by injuries, the urgency to bolster the squad is palpable. The team’s ability to adapt and respond to setbacks will be critical not only for immediate matches but also for maintaining their competitiveness as the season progresses. With Postecoglou at the helm, the coming weeks will be a test of resilience and strategic planning, as the club seeks to overcome obstacles in pursuit of their goals.
