Vinicius Junior Formally Responds to Real Madrid First Contract Offer

Real Madrid has commenced formal discussions with Vinicius Junior regarding a new contract, but the Brazilian forward and his representatives have rejected the club’s initial proposal.

Currently, the 24-year-old is tied to Real Madrid until 2027, having signed an extension in 2022, which was officially announced in early 2023. His contract includes an astonishing release clause valued at €1 billion, a testament to the club’s acknowledgment of his exceptional talent and importance to the team.

Reports indicate that Vinicius’ camp is advocating for a more substantial salary increase that aligns with his rising stature as one of the premier players in world football. Having recently narrowly missed out on the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, Vinicius is eager for his performance and contributions to be recognized with a more fitting financial reward. He currently earns approximately €15 million annually, with additional bonuses that include incentives for winning FIFA’s Best Men’s Player award, highlighting his impact and value on the pitch.

In the summer prior, Vinicius was the subject of speculation linking him to foreign clubs, particularly in the Saudi Pro League. The Athletic reported that discussions took place between his representatives and foreign club officials regarding a potential transfer. Although Real Madrid expressed willingness to extend his contract at that time, Vinicius and his representatives decided to pause discussions, preferring to evaluate the situation as the season evolved, demonstrating a cautious and strategic approach to his career development.

Interest from Saudi clubs reignited in December, reaffirming that Vinicius remains a key target for the upcoming summer transfer window. However, as of now, no agreements have materialized, further complicating the negotiation landscape with Real Madrid, as both sides work toward a resolution.

It is understood that in mid-January, executives from Real Madrid met with Vinicius’ representatives—including a family member—at the club’s Valdebebas training facility to initiate negotiations. Although the club’s first offer included a salary increase, it fell short of meeting the player’s demands, leading to its rejection. Nonetheless, both parties are expected to keep the lines of communication open as they navigate the complexities of the negotiations, showcasing a mutual interest in reaching a satisfactory outcome.

In light of these negotiations, Vinicius has consistently voiced his commitment to Real Madrid and his desire to remain with the club long-term. “I’m still only 24,” he expressed in October. “I want to stay here forever and contribute as much as possible to this team, which has given me everything since I arrived.” This declaration reflects not only his loyalty to Real Madrid but also his ambition to grow and contribute to a club that has become an integral part of his life and career.

Vinicius joined Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018 for a fee of €45 million. Since then, he has made 293 appearances for the club, tallying an impressive 101 goals and 83 assists. His evolution into a key figure within the squad showcases his dedication and talent on the field. During his tenure, he has clinched three La Liga titles, two Champions League trophies, and two FIFA Club World Cups, which speak volumes about his contribution to the team’s success and prestige.

This current season has been particularly fruitful for him, with Vinicius showcasing his abilities by netting 16 goals and providing 10 assists in 28 matches across all competitions. His stellar performance not only endears him to the fans but continues to cement his reputation as one of the most exciting and dynamic players in modern football. As negotiations continue, both Vinicius and Real Madrid look to secure a mutually beneficial relationship that aligns with their ambitions and future goals.
