Palmeiras Seeks to Secure Vitor Roque from Barcelona

Vitor Roque is currently facing an uncertain future in European football, particularly as Palmeiras intensifies its efforts to sign the young striker who has struggled to make a significant impact at both Barcelona and Real Betis. Despite his potential and a bright start to his career, Roque’s time at Barcelona since arriving in January last year has not lived up to expectations. He found himself limited in playing opportunities and has now been unable to showcase his talent during his loan spell at Real Betis.

The 19-year-old forward’s situation has sparked considerable interest back in Brazil. With the Brazilian transfer window remaining open until February 28, Palmeiras is keen on bringing Tigrinho back to his roots. They have reportedly reached an agreement with Barcelona for a €25 million fee to acquire 80% of Roque’s economic rights. However, this transfer hinges on obtaining the necessary approval from Real Betis, a process that needs to be expedited.

Recent reports from SPORT indicate that Leila Pereira, the president of Palmeiras who has a notable reputation as a business magnate, is applying significant pressure on all involved parties. She has set a strict deadline of 48 hours for reaching a resolution. As time ticks away, all eyes are on the negotiations to see whether an agreement can be finalized.

The economic terms that Palmeiras has laid out mirror those established at the beginning of the season between Barcelona and Real Betis. Palmeiras is not looking for a loan deal, making their intentions clear—they view Roque as integral to their long-term vision, intending to position him as their starting number nine and make him the highest-paid player in the squad.

Palmeiras has also indicated that they will not provide any financial compensation to Real Betis for early release, citing that the Andalusian side is already benefiting from the arrangement by saving four months’ worth of Roque’s wages during his loan period. This aspect of the negotiation has garnered some attention in Brazilian media, which mentioned potential compensation of €2 million to Betis, a development that has been dismissed by Palmeiras.

On a personal front, Roque is reportedly enthusiastic about the prospect of returning to Brazil and putting an end to his challenging experience in Spanish football. He has successfully negotiated a salary agreement with Palmeiras that meets his expectations, suggesting that a return home is both desirable and financially feasible for him.

Barcelona has indicated a willingness to evaluate all possible outcomes for Roque’s future. Still, they have clarified their stance that they will not exert pressure on him to accept a move to Brazil or any other destination. Initially, in discussions with Palmeiras, Barcelona sought a €27 million fee—reflecting the expectations stated by Palmeiras in December. Eventually, they conceded that the transfer should align with the existing terms set with Real Betis, leaving it now in the hands of the involved parties to finalize the terms of the deal. Palmeiras hopes to wrap up the transfer in the next 48 hours as they look to secure a promising talent for their squad’s future.
