Palmeiras have officially ended negotiations with Barcelona over the permanent signing of Vitor Roque due to La Liga’s refusal to authorize the transfer. This marks a significant development in Roque’s tumultuous journey in Spain, as he was on the brink of returning to Brazil to join the esteemed Palmeiras lineup.
The young striker, who had faced various challenges while adapting to life in La Liga, was eagerly anticipating a fresh start with Palmeiras, one of the most successful clubs in Brazil. According to well-known Brazilian journalist Andre Hernan, the talks have concluded and Roque will remain in Spain at least until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
Over the past weekend, reports from Sport indicated that Palmeiras was prepared to make a substantial offer, amounting to €25 million (approximately £20 million, or $26 million), in order to secure Roque’s services permanently from Barcelona. Initially, there were indications that the Catalan club was ready to bring Roque back from his current loan at Real Betis before facilitating the sale to Palmeiras. However, complications arose when Jijantes reported on Monday that La Liga’s regulations would not permit this transfer under the current circumstances.
The crux of the issue lies in the fact that Barcelona must first terminate Roque’s loan at Real Betis and then re-register him before any potential sale to Palmeiras can occur. Given that the transfer window in Spain is now closed, this series of steps cannot proceed as intended. Adding to this complexity, as per La Liga’s regulations, Real Betis is also barred from loaning out a player they have officially registered under a loan agreement.
Despite these setbacks, Palmeiras had reportedly secured a verbal agreement with Roque’s agent, Andre Cury, regarding his salary, with plans to make the talented teenager the highest-paid player in their squad. This move was indicative of Palmeiras’ commitment to reinstate Roque as a central figure in their attacking lineup.
As the situation unfolds, Roque is set to return to action for Real Betis this Saturday when they face off against the reigning Spanish champions, Real Madrid, in a La Liga match at home. This game will provide Roque with an opportunity to showcase his skills and potentially improve his standing in the team, even as he navigates this challenging chapter of his career.
