Anthony Hamilton: Lewis Hamilton’s father to Join FIA for Young Driver Development in 2025

Lewis Hamilton’s father, Anthony Hamilton, is set to take on a significant role within the FIA as part of an ambitious new young driver development programme aimed at nurturing future racing talent. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of supporting young drivers in their journey to professional motorsport, ensuring that they have the necessary guidance and resources to succeed in such a competitive environment.

Anthony Hamilton, who has been actively involved in an advisory capacity for the FIA over the past 18 months, has shown a strong commitment to this role and is reportedly “very motivated” about stepping into this new position. His wealth of experience in motorsport, both as a father and manager, equips him with unique insights that can greatly benefit emerging drivers.

The FIA is expected to officially announce Hamilton’s new role in June, coinciding with the launch of its Young Driver Development Pathway. This pathway is designed to identify and cultivate promising talent from a grassroots level up to the heights of Formula 1. By leveraging Anthony’s expertise, the FIA aims to create a robust framework that supports young drivers both on and off the track.

In the backdrop of this development, Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, has been vocal about his uneasy relationship with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. Despite this, Ben Sulayem has expressed admiration for Anthony’s advisory contributions, acknowledging the value he brings to the FIA’s mission.

Recently, Lewis Hamilton faced controversy regarding comments made by Ben Sulayem, who urged Formula 1 drivers to refrain from using offensive language on the radio. The president drew comparisons that some perceived as inappropriate, stating that F1 drivers should avoid behaving like rappers. This comment sparked further dialogue about language use in the sport, and Hamilton felt compelled to address the situation.

As he prepared for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Hamilton articulated his frustration, saying, “It is ridiculous. I don’t really know. Nothing I say is going to make any difference to it.” He expressed his belief that the FIA was experiencing internal turmoil, suggesting, “It seems a bit of a mess there at the moment. There are lots of changes that are needed, for sure. But it doesn’t really affect me. I don’t see what’s happened since then.” His remarks highlight not only his concerns about the current state of the FIA but also a desire for improvement in how the sport is managed.
