PSG Manager Luis Enrique Undergoes Surgery After Cycling Accident

Paris Saint-Germain’s manager, Luis Enrique, is set to undergo surgery following a cycling accident that occurred on Friday, which has raised concerns about his recovery timeline and the potential impact on the team’s performance in the upcoming matches.

Enrique, who was instrumental in leading PSG to their first-ever Champions League title and a remarkable treble in the 2024-25 season, received treatment from emergency services for a fractured collarbone sustained in the incident, as confirmed by the club.

Since his appointment in July 2023, Luis Enrique has enjoyed a highly successful tenure with PSG. His first season saw him secure the league and cup double. The former Barcelona and Spain manager then guided the French club to a historic treble last season, culminating in a dominant 5-0 victory over Inter Milan to clinch their maiden Champions League trophy in May. Additionally, PSG claimed the UEFA Super Cup in August, triumphing over Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties after a dramatic comeback from a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw in normal time.

The club also reached the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup final in July and has commenced the new Ligue 1 season with a strong performance, winning their opening three league matches against Nantes, Angers, and Toulouse before the international break.

PSG released a statement on social media: “Following a cycling accident on Friday, Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique was treated by the emergency services and will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone. The Club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery. Further updates will be shared in due course.”

Looking ahead, PSG’s next fixture is a home game against Lens in Ligue 1 on September 14. Subsequently, they will begin their Champions League title defense by hosting Serie A side Atalanta on September 17, with hopes that their manager will be present on the touchline.
