Buccaneers and Chargers Stay Unbeaten in NFL 2025

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Chargers both reached a 2-0 record for the 2025 NFL season following their victories over the Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-19 Houston Texans

Baker Mayfield led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a thrilling 20-19 victory over the Houston Texans with an 11-play, 80-yard drive capped by Rachaad White’s two-yard touchdown run with six seconds left. Mayfield threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns, including a crucial 15-yard scramble on fourth-and-10 during the game-winning drive.

The Texans initially took a 19-14 lead with a 25-yard touchdown run by Nick Chubb, but failed on a two-point conversion attempt. CJ Stroud, who passed for 207 yards and a touchdown, struggled to move the offense effectively in the second half. A blocked punt by Jakob Johnson helped set up a 53-yard field goal by Ka’imi Fairbairn, bringing Houston within one point before Chubb’s touchdown put them ahead. Ultimately, the Bucs responded with a game-winning drive to secure the victory.

Los Angeles Chargers 20-9 Las Vegas Raiders

Justin Herbert led the Chargers to a 20-9 victory over the Raiders, throwing for 242 yards and two touchdowns. This win marked head coach Jim Harbaugh’s success against rival Pete Carroll, though it was tempered by the loss of star defensive end Khalil Mack to an elbow injury. Herbert’s touchdowns went to Quentin Johnson and Keenan Allen, who returned to the team after a season with the Bears. The Chargers’ defense was dominant, limiting the Raiders to 218 yards, with linebacker Daiyan Henley contributing significantly, including an interception.

For the Raiders, Geno Smith had a challenging game with three interceptions, and rookie Ashton Jeanty managed only 43 yards on 11 carries. This matchup was the first between Harbaugh and Carroll since 2014, highlighting their long-standing competitive history.
