Barcelona midfielder Gavi is set to miss up to five months of action following surgery to address a meniscus injury in his right knee, as confirmed by the LaLiga club on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old, who had only recently returned from a serious ACL injury in the same knee, has not played since August due to ongoing complications. His recent surgery marks another setback in what has been a challenging period for the young footballer.

In an official statement, Barcelona explained, “First team player Pablo Páez Gavira, known as ‘Gavi’, underwent an arthroscopic procedure to address a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured in order to maintain the integrity of the meniscus. The estimated recovery time is approximately four to five months.” Initially, the club had hoped to avoid surgery and explore less invasive options, but medical evaluations ultimately advised that surgery was the most effective solution for recovery.

Gavi’s struggles with injuries are particularly taxing, as he had previously been sidelined for 11 months after tearing his ACL while representing Spain in November 2023.
