BREAKING: Raheem Sterling leaves Chelsea with immediate effect on mutual terms

Chelsea Football Club has confirmed that Raheem Sterling has reached a mutual agreement to leave the club, ending his tenure 18 months prior to the conclusion of his contract. The announcement notes that Sterling has not suited up for Chelsea since May 2024, despite being one of the top earners at the club, reportedly making £325,000 each week.

With his exit now official, Sterling is free to explore opportunities with any club as a free agent. He has indicated that he is open to various possibilities and is not restricting his search to teams located in London. The 31-year-old had 18 months left on his contract, which could have cost Chelsea approximately £25 million if he had opted to stay until its expiration in the summer of 2027.

Sterling joined Chelsea in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £47.5 million from Manchester City, becoming the first significant signing under the club’s current ownership structure, which involved co-owner Todd Boehly stepping in as interim sporting director at the time.

Throughout his stay at Chelsea, Sterling also experienced a loan period at Arsenal last season and had been training separately from the first team upon his return last summer. He attracted interest from clubs like Fulham and Napoli, but he was not inclined toward another loan deal, preferring instead a permanent move.

In a formal announcement, the club released a statement thanking Raheem for his contributions, which concluded with the words: “We thank Raheem for the contribution he made while a Chelsea player and wish him well for the next stage in his career.” Over his time at Chelsea, Sterling accumulated a total of 81 appearances in all competitions following his transfer from Manchester City, marking a key chapter in his professional journey.
