Jordan Henderson is in the process of finalizing an agreement to join Ajax after terminating his contract with Al Ettifaq.

Liverpool legend Jordan Henderson’s reported transition to Ajax comes after negotiations to terminate his contract with Al-Ettifaq. Despite his £12 million ($15m) transfer to the Saudi Pro League side in the summer of 2023, Henderson is eager to depart from the Middle East. Reports suggest that his wife’s struggles to adapt to life in Saudi Arabia have played a significant role in their decision to seek a move elsewhere.

According to The Athletic, Henderson has successfully persuaded Al-Ettifaq to release him from his three-year contract. Initially reluctant to part ways, the club has relented, paving the way for Henderson’s permanent transfer. With an agreement in principle to join Ajax, Henderson is on his way back to England, poised to finalize the necessary paperwork and undergo a medical before being unveiled as a new Ajax player.

During his time with Al-Ettifaq, Henderson contributed 17 appearances and four assists under the management of his former Liverpool teammate, Steven Gerrard. Despite his efforts, the team has faced challenging results, finding themselves in eighth place with just 25 points from 19 matches.

Ajax, too, has had its struggles in the Eredivisie, prompting a managerial change in October. Following Maurice Steijn’s departure, interim head coach John van ‘t Schip has overseen a notable transformation, leading the team to an unbeaten streak in the league. This impressive run of seven wins and two draws in nine matches has propelled Ajax to fifth place in the standings, setting the stage for Henderson to make an impact from the outset.

As Henderson prepares to embark on this new chapter with Ajax, the football world eagerly anticipates his contributions and the potential influence he may have on the Eredivisie side’s fortunes moving forward.
