Newcastle United have completed the signing of Denmark Under-21 striker William Osula from Sheffield United for a reported fee of £15m. Osula, 21, secured the move after showcasing his talent with three goals in 31 senior appearances for the Blades. Despite Sheffield United’s relegation to the Championship, Osula’s potential shone through, earning him a transfer to the Magpies.
Reflecting on his move, Osula expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s a big club, a great club, so I’m very happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle United.” He also emphasized the significance of this career progression, saying, “It’s a great opportunity, and as soon as I heard about Newcastle’s interest, I knew I had to take the chance to join this club if it came.”
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe revealed that the club had been monitoring Osula for three years, following a recommendation from assistant manager Jason Tindall. Tindall’s familiarity with Osula stems from his time at Sheffield United in 2021 as part of Paul Heckingbottom’s backroom staff. Speaking about the new signing, Howe expressed his enthusiasm, “He’s a player I’ve known since JT’s [Jason Tindall’s] time at Sheffield United. We’ve been tracking him for three years and he excites us. He has all the raw ingredients to become a great centre-forward.”
Osula’s acquisition marks Newcastle’s sixth signing of the summer, joining the likes of Miodrag Pivas, Odysseas Vlachodimos, John Ruddy, Lloyd Kelly, and Lewis Hall in strengthening the squad for the upcoming challenges.
