Martin Odegaard left the pitch in tears after picking up an injury tonight

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard’s injury in Norway’s Nations League game against Austria has caused concern for the Gunners ahead of their upcoming matches. The attacking midfielder had to be assisted off the field due to an ankle sprain, leaving Arsenal with further midfield concerns. With Mikel Merino already sidelined due to a shoulder injury and Declan Rice serving a suspension following a red card, Arsenal faces a challenge in the midfield department.

The timing of Odegaard’s injury is particularly worrying as Arsenal gears up for the highly anticipated north London derby against Tottenham. This is followed by the commencement of their Champions League campaign with a demanding trip to face Atalanta, before facing Manchester City in a challenging Premier League fixture mere days later. The consecutive high-stakes matches will undoubtedly test Arsenal’s squad depth and resilience as they strive to compete on multiple fronts.

“It looked bad in the dressing room too,” Norway coach Stale Solbakken told broadcaster TV2

“Martin is doing quite well now,” added team doctor Ola Sand. “He got a small ankle sprain. We will see throughout the evening and [Tuesday] what happens next and what we will do about it.

“Ankle sprains are difficult to deal with straight away, so we almost have to see how things go forward

“We will examine him when we are back at the hotel. Maybe we use ultrasound to look at it. If we are unsure, there will be an MRI [on Tuesday].”

The absence of key players due to injury and suspension adds a layer of complexity to Arsenal’s strategic planning and team selection, especially considering the intensity of the upcoming fixtures. As the team navigates through this challenging period, the spotlight is on the coaching staff and remaining players to adapt effectively and deliver strong performances in crucial matches.
